Skyrim light armor vs heavy.
Light armor has better/earlier perks. Once you're decently into smithing, it'll protect as well as heavy. Light armor also has the large advantage of Grelka, in Riften, who is a trainer and general merchant. But, if you like the flavor of heavy, it's totally viable. But, light is objectively stronger.

The cap for armour is around 547. This means that a set of fur armour (Light) can potentially be just as protective as a set of Daedric Armour (Heavy). Anyway back to your question, it's a pretty decent choice but don't forget the other hilariously useful spell in Alteration; paralysis. I've tried alteration so many times but I never got that far.
