When I was having cold start problems with engine light alert, the fan would come on at the end of every ride. To solve the starting problem I added ethanol-free gasoline; it solved that problem, and the fan no longer came on.It's supposed to run on an 01 for up to 45 minutes after you shut the car off. It's called the afterblow system and it clears out the AC system. Check your running time. If it shuts off after about 45 minutes it's working properly. You may need a new battery. If that didn't work there is a fault glitch in the timing.
