First aid is only useful for fracture heal speed and for the speed at which you apply bandages. That means if you get a fracture and you still have health to spare the best thing to do is farm first aid while you wait for it to heal. Fractures have a base healing time irrespective of traits and its no where near 1 month ingame, more like 2 weeks. You can speed it up with well fed and medical herbs. Torso and head fractures don't really give big debuffs, likely because there is no great treatment for them haha.

I was unfortunate enough to get a laceration on my right hand on the 3rd day, which pretty much makes me unable to fight. On top of this, all i have to eat is ground beef and a can of tuna.
